On March 4, 2023, “Organ Protection, China Journey 2023+!” (Nanjing University Station) and the academic exchange meeting between the Key Laboratory of Multi-Organ Joint Transplantation Research of National Health and Health Commission and School of Life Sciences of Nanjing University was successfully held in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province. The conference was hosted by the School of Life Sciences of Nanjing University, supported and co-organized by the National Trauma Medical Center, China Liver Transplantation Registry, the Key Laboratory of Multi-Organ Joint Transplantation Research of the National Health Care Commission, and Shulan (Hangzhou) Hospital.

Lei Dong, Vice Dean of School of Life Sciences, Nanjing University, delivered the opening speech. He warmly congratulated the conference and thanked the National Trauma Medical Center, China Liver Transplantation Registry, and the Key Laboratory of Multi-Organ Joint Transplantation Research of National Health Care Commission for their trust and strong support. Moreover, he introduced the long history of Nanjing University and the contribution and status of our life sciences, especially organ conservation and functional regeneration research, in the international and domestic arenas. The School of Life Sciences of Nanjing University closely focuses on the core problems of life sciences, integrating research fields from microscopic molecules to macroscopic physiology, and strives to build a high-level biomedical science and technology system for life and health. Notably, in-depth research on physiological and pathological mechanisms, disease prevention and treatment, and in situ and ectopic functional reconstruction of various organs such as liver, pancreas, thymus, kidney, and lung has been conducted. Furthermore, he sincerely called for in-depth exchanges and cooperation between the National Center for Trauma Medicine, the China Liver Transplantation Registry, and the Key Laboratory of Multi-Organ Joint Transplantation Research of the National Health Care Commission and the School of Life Sciences of Nanjing University to broaden function-oriented organ transplantation protocols and promote the development of regenerative medicine technology.

Jianhui Li, Vice Dean of Shulan Hospital, introduced the establishment and development of National Trauma Medical Center Organ Protection Professional Committee. Moreover, he introduced the committee's goals of promoting the establishment of organ protection big data platform, establishing relevant industry standards and norms, promoting the development of advanced innovative technologies for organ protection, promoting the establishment of international academic platform, and realizing the function of independent OPO whole process quality control.

Under the host of Lei Dong, the experts conducted an academic seminar on organ protection. During the process, Dr. Lin Song from the School of Life Sciences of Nanjing University conducted an academic research report entitled  Hepatocyte shielding island improves islet implantation , which systematically introduced the protective effect of hepatocytes on islets during transplantation. Dr. Mi Liu from our joint training conducted an academic research report entitled  KSiNP remodeled the spleen to promote islet survival and function , which introduced a new strategy and method for functional regeneration of islets. Dr. Xiaoyi Hu from the National Health Care Commission's Joint Multi-Organ Transplantation Laboratory conducted an academic research report entitled  Splenic transdifferentiation in large animals , which demonstrated the latest achievements of spleen functional transformation in large animals. Thereafter, Lei Dong, Jianhui Li, Jing xiao (executive vice-president of Life Perfusor Medical), Lijun Zhao (general manager of Shulan Health-Daikai Health) and other experts conducted an intense discussion on the topic of organ protection.
